The sushi places do somewhat often find seem to Japanese sushi chefs.
But yeah they are practically never owned by Japanese people and most mayos have no idea.
My absolute favorite is areas with a large Hmong population. It is an undeniable fact that every Midwestern grocery store in 2015 had a 6am all-employee meeting that went like:
"Soo ah, they're about ta install one a dem Sue-shi ki-aasks. Who wants ta volunteer fer it? Anyone? Anyone?" And they all slowly turn and glance furtively around and one of them says "hey Vang whatta ya... Whattaya think? About that."
