      They are extremely effective at deterring dogs from their hunting instinct. You pretty much use them once or twice in the right moment and it stops the dog in it's tracks and you never need to use it again.

      They are a teaching tool, used in very particular circumstances. They should never be a permanent fixture or used by people without training.

        Thing is, there's no research that suggests that other training methods wouldn't be equally effective at getting dogs to stop hunting, and in places where e-collars are legal (which is almost everywhere) 99% of their use is in training domestic skills where positive reinforcement training is demonstrably superior and less likely to be harmful.
