    Protonmail is the best for burner e-mails, prob the best free email service in terms of security/functionality and not having your inbox crawled to build an advertising profile. I wouldn't consider it secure (use with a VPN if you're ever doing something the feds would potentially investigate) but it's certainly more private than Google

      I wouldn't trust VPNs for much more than avoiding copyright strikes from your ISP but I'm willing to be corrected

        Yeah, that's fair — I was thinking about a case of the french(?) feds getting the IP address of a left wing activist from protonmail and tracking them down based on that, but I suppose depending on the VPN that might just add one extra layer the feds have to go through to find you.

    What do you want to use it for? Proton is decent if it's an anonymous account. If it's going to receive any information about you irl then I'd buy a domain and forward to fastmail.

        Then I'd consider it a fairly public account associated with you and do the domain + mx record thing. The advantage is that you can switch mail providers without changing addresses and vice versa.

        The servers are in the US, so it's not really a good choice for doing things the US does not like, but they have a way better track record than protonmail and I don't remember anything anticommunist about them.
