Do you guys think there is any chance that Putin would get couped because of all of this? The decision is massively unpopular, Russians feel that their extended family are getting murdered because of nothing and also among his circle there was a reluctance on escalating . I saw this and it made me wonder, thoughts?

No chance, doubt he would proceed with this operation without consulting the oligarch, doesn't matter who the president, as long as Ukraine have possibility chance of join NATO, that's a redline for Russia

Lol, no - the public, live humiliation to which he subjected his chief spy tells me all about who is actually in charge here and how tight their grip on power is. The local billionaires won't ever feel the heat from this extremely local, contained conflict against a helpless opponent. Same as how Bush wasn't removed despite starting two of the most horrific campaigns of war.

Mussolini was only ousted once the liberal class in Italy started being on the receiving end of allied bombs, Hitler's various assassination attempts were concocted by card-carrying nazis only slightly upset they were losing, rather than out of any principled antifascist stance.

The whole idea of the sanctions was to appeal to the oligarchs pockets. Putin built a $600 billion reserve(you can find articles about this going back months/years) and secured deals with China already. There is zero chance the oligarchy will turn on him now.

Here is a rundown of his reserves. 20% of it is gold which is the 4th biggest in the world. That reserve is about 17 months of export revenue. He will be fine. He planned for the long term already.

The only remotely plausible scenario I see a coup is somehow NATO joins the war, it goes nuclear, world calls for peace and he refuses for whatever reason.

I was just thinking this! It does seem to have riled up Putin discontents, he may very well have opened up the way a bit for a color revolution, if only a little bit

A thousand and change anti-war protesters got jailed today and I get the sense that no one is really buying the narrative that Ukrainians are nazis who hate Russia on top of that we have information of some diplomats expressing their not discomfort but horror at the situation so its certainly a possibility we should consider, glad I'm not alone thinking about this.

Yeah Navalny is out of the picture and considering how absent he is from western media, he may not had that much sway to begin with. At the moment an oust seems extremely unlikely but if conflict prolongs, I can see Putin losing his grip on people, no Navalny needed.
