    someone I know who knows more about this than me said making nuclear threats is standard operating procedure even in local wars in russian military doctrine. they say it's posturing.

      Soviet doctrine from the Cold War which was disclosed in the 90s showed that their plan was to drive hard West as fast as they could, using nukes against any NATO concentrations along the way.

      Push come to shove and NATO starts shooting, I wouldn't rule out that possibility.

        we're not talking about a legit NATO/russia total war scenario though, I think everyone would assume that this would lead to mutual destruction
