        Well they're being crazy proactive. Oh well. Anyone who's heard of the fediverse is most likely already familiar with sideloading apks.

          Def true. But it does suck, because what the fediverse needs is people... And there really aren't that many who are interested if they can't even download an app for it

            F-droid is a good manager for sidelodable apps. It comes with a ton of Foss packages and the ability to add more repos if you stumble across any.

            NOTE: You shouldn't leave the side-load protection/warning off 24/7. Malicious Apps can happen (even in the Google Play store). So be vigilant with what you pirate/install.

            You can download the app from a site and choose to install apps from non-Play Store locations in your settings.

      I actually think it's the opposite in this case, it's an action against reactionaries.

      I believe that the only one that hasn't received a warning is Tusky, which quite openly blacklists Gab's domains, while others don't have blacklists. Of course, reactionaries have tanked its Google Play ratings because it's "against free speech".

    This is fine. There will just need to be a push towards more effective mobile versions of sites. Chapo's mobile version feels slicker than 90% of apps I use and it's quicker for me to open than most apps too.

    I don't forsee this having much effect in the longterm on Fediverse's goals. Devs can build around it. I don't think anyone was under the belief that decentralised social media wouldn't come under attack as the direct threat it is to corporate tech dominance.

      The apps are just web-sites built in Electron (which is just a one-tabbed Chrome window) on Desktop. I wouldn't be surprised if the "apps" are similar.

      The only reason I use the Twitter app is because I don't want to wade through a bunch of tabs on Chrome with how shitty it is with no (non-rooted) adblocking. (And yes, I realize the native app has ads in it)
