this gets the events of the book wrong, Yeller was shot when he walked back up to the house immediately after fending off the rabid wolves, they didn't wait to go behind a shed with him they just dropped him right away, this is a failed fedpost

The book also serves as a valuable lesson on "YES, RABIES IS THAT BAD"
Kind of unfortunate that such a disease exists. Killing off any and every suspected rabid animal was the best way to handle it back then, not many preventative measures existed.
