I came across this based, triumphant song about heroically killing the Romanovs and I realized I never actually saw the movie it's from so I decided to watch it.

The movie started on a high note with the overthrow of the evil empire, but now the bad guys are spreading fake news to try to stir up trouble and undermine the revolution. Hopefully the proper authorities can catch them before they cause too much trouble. Pretty invested in this story ngl; Hexbear watch party when?

Ugh they nearly caught the bad guys but then they destroyed a train and rail line and got away. The dude even said - and this is a direct quote - "I hate trains. Remind me never to get on a train again." They gotta catch these guys!

Damn, the girl just found out she's related to a pack of vile, evil imperialists. That's gotta sting.

This movie got super horny as soon as they got to Paris.

The con man was the same class traitor who helped the royals escape at the start. I knew that kid was no good.

Funny how they set it up that the people of the USSR were thrilled to hear a rumor that a Romanov survived, like that was the highlight of their otherwise grueling existence of hard labor, and then they dropped that whole thread after one song. It seemed like they were gonna do some kind of performance or something but instead the whole plan involved fooling the grand duchess, which seems like a bad plan considering how much investment they put into it and how many people had tried and failed. Where did the guy even get the money to fund all this?

Also, what was Rasputin's deal, anyway? Like he had it out for the Romanovs because they betrayed him, but they only betrayed him because he was "evil," but like why was he evil before he had the motivation of getting revenge against the Romanovs?

Why does Rasputin want the curse to be completed? He's stuck in Limbo because a Romanov is still alive, but that means that when the curse is finished, his soul will move on, to Hell, presumably. It seems like he's a lot better off just chilling. What did the Romanovs even do to him? It seems like they just fired him.

That's the entire plot of the movie btw. The Romanovs fire the bad guy, which they were right to do because he was already bad, and he sends demons to do the Soviet Revolution and then tried to hunt down Anastasia. There is no indication that any Romanov ever did anything bad or that there might be any legitimate reason someone might not like them.

Overall, the movie suffers from unclear motivations and the relationships between the characters feel forced and stilted, and I'd say the songs are pretty weak (except for the one about killing Romanovs, which is a bop). Obviously the history is totally whitewashed but I knew that going in.

Lastly: Rasputin had a line about going to the surface by "Taking the train," while the con man had the line I mentioned earlier about hating trains. Was this intentional? Why does the movie hate trains?
