I'll keep newpipe in mind but apparently you can't log in to youtube on it? So does that mean I have to see the default feed which is just crammed with obnoxious thumbnails and stuff?
Tbh I'm rooted and have adaway anyways so I think I'm usually pretty good to go on yt anyways. But this definitely stings.

It just means that any subscriptions are local
Ah cool that's fine with me since I only have a few subs I care about. Thanks for clearing that up
You can import your subscriptions. It just won't be synced with your YouTube account which sucks. It's still better than using the official app.
I just view my subscriptions in my browser at https://m.youtube.com/feed/subscriptions and open the links in Newpipe.
