Or that time in the 19th century there was a failed "revolution" lead by a theocrat. 30 million dead so you could maybe change who is the head of your feudal society.

Seems to me like if would have been pretty fucking hard to see that kinda dancing in "China before communism" when 97.7% of women had bound feet prior to the May 4th Movement

Women's dance was basically extinct in the Qing Dynasty, aside from peasant dances and those performed by sex workers. So I don't know what the fuck they're doing, but it's at best HIP or folk revival and at worst made up orientalist nonsense.

My FIL almost got me tickets to this for Christmas because he knew I was interested in Chinese culture. It was a really sweet gesture from someone who didn't know better, but I am so glad he got me a 100lb magnet instead.

Yeah like is it 100lbs, or can it hold up 100lbs? I'm intrigued by this magnet.

It can hold up to 100lbs! Thankfully, the magnet itself weighs significantly less. I use it to fish garbage out of the creak, mostly, but sometimes you find something cool like a pocket knife or an old BB gun. My goal is to learn to weld so I can use some of the more interesting chunks of metal that I pull for art projects.

The magnet itself only weighs about a tenth of that, but it supposedly can lift 100lbs! I drag it across local creaks, ponds and quarries. Haven't found any 100lb pieces of lake garbage yet, but I am absolutely looking forward to the day it happens.

My fiance is part of the Chinese diaspora so just one example but almost every one of her friends are the same mix of weird contradictions:

          • support CCP
          • read Epoch Times and share it and similar stuff on WeChat all the time
          • liked Trump alright until he bungled COVID
          • also think COVID was a US bioweapon meant to damage PRC's reputation
          • 100% unquestioning support for Russian invasion of Ukraine
          • do not care at all that Ukraine has a Nazi problem though, just in favour of war
          • Buddhists, every single one of them...

Though my anecdotes probably mean nothing and I am doing a, uh, my username... Since all anyone running this site can do is go "the science" despite the gray areas of "the science" being clear as day. For some reason that's worthy of, you know.

Oh, I have. Unfortunately I'm very familiar with it since my background is data science for clinical trials and I currently cut the monthly cheque for like 200.000,USD worth of servers and IP address space on cloud and bare metal providers all over the world so I'm a little confused why they bother banning me. I don't even do captchas, I farm that out to Anti-Captcha.com

Anyway, it's hard to get so good at science so I don't get mad at people for being bad at it. I had to sell my soul to the gods of profit on behalf of every CRO and sponsor I work with to get this good at it. Utter demons like Regeneron, Pfizer, BMS, Roche, Janssen, Genentech, Allergan, AstraZeneca, Novartis... But you'll get really good at science. To the point you understand things you never wanted to, like how virtually every hormone in the human body works and how its receptors can be inhibited or modulated.

But yeah, I'll trust some forum commentators who've probably read an abstract and watched a couple YouTube vids on the subject.

I'm a master of the science! I have learned a lot of the science and gotten really good at it (the science that is)!

I worked at a lot of these many companies; the specific position they hired me for? Scientist. I worked in the labs and did the science.

I mean, China does have an incredibly long history of bureaucratically-managed society (or at least observed, and of course only to an extent).

But obviously this isn’t about recreating an Amin-grade history, rather an appeal to western tradcaths or whatever. Something to focus your two minutes of hate on, the existence of not-whatever-this-is China (orientalist Mrs Poppins?)
