The ukranian language laws provided a great pretext to go after any non-Ukrainian speaking minorities, Russian, Roma, Greek, Tartar, for failing to use Ukrainian to communicate.

Ukraine didn't ban other languages, they just banned official use and included quotas for use of Ukrainian language in business and media.

Does Russia not target civilians? Everything else seems right, though I don't know if Russia's approach to nazism is any better.

They do target civilians, yes. I’ve seen people try to downplay this, but the explanations are indistinguishable from apologia for how the US dehumanizes people’s deaths as “collateral damage” or “combatant deaths”. If anyone wants to tell me about how Azov is hiding amongst civilians, yeah no shit. That doesn’t mean the people around them are guilty by proximity.

It's literally the explanation Israel offers when it targets civilians.

They're hitting residential areas because that's where Azov have set up artillery, but they're not hitting civilian infrastructure like water treatment plants the way NATO did in Yugoslavia and Iraq.

tbf, not as brutal as NATO is a pretty low bar. They are certainly hitting civilians and calling it collateral damage like the yankees

“I know it’s hard … to swallow that the carnage and destruction could be much worse than it is,” says the [US intelligence] analyst. “But that’s what the facts show. This suggests to me, at least, that Putin is not intentionally attacking civilians, that perhaps he is mindful that he needs to limit damage in order to leave an out for negotiations.”

Completely straight faced use of the phrase “Jew card” gets dangerously close to this “antisemitism from the left” I’ve heard so much about.
