I don't think there is anything productive in engaging with them online. They will either stumble into good materialism or not. They still have 'le Western Civilization', 'fullon communism doesn't work', and 'humans just be greedy' memes floating around in their head. Engaging with them won't work, just ignore and post around them imo.

It really doesn't matter if they're hardcore MLs either. The Western left are not the primary, secondary, or even tertiary vanguard of social change in terms of fighting global capitalism. Everyone in the developed world who calls themselves leftist - of any tendency - is still effectively an anarchist in terms of organizing power. It seems that Cheetyo is willing to mildly blaspheme against the dogma in that reform "I love you but we need to talk" way; life will eventually radicalize him further or, if his prospects improve, just turn him into another liberal democrat that votes for the Liberal Party of Canada as a routine.
