When it was announced that My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic was ending in 2019, I decided to try expanding my interest in My Little Pony into an interest in animation/cartoons more broadly. And you know what that meant?

That's right, I started watching Soviet cartoons and learning about their histories and production, including learning some basic Russian in order to get access to Russian-language sources, and in that way I got a much more nuanced understanding of the USSR and the perspectives of those who lived through it. And where did that lead me? COMMUNISM.

And attempting to get into animation from around the world also naturally meant that I started watching anime, in particular slice of life leaning on CGDCT. 'Twasn't much surprise then that I'd eventually have a dream wherein I wore something resembling the K-On! school uniform while showing "my new boyfriend" around town, basically living as his doting girlfriend, and woke up wishing I'd stayed dreaming. And that was one major contributing factor that would eventually lead to my gender crisis in 2020!

THIS IS TRULY THE ESSENCE OF MATERIAL DIALECTICS ON DISPLAY RIGHT HERE!

I think it's only recently we finished abrading most of the "how dare men like girl thing" assholes off of this site.

Oh, that thread? I participated in that thread, I'm pretty sure, and I remember really just one jerk there, so it didn't really strike me as any sort of larger-scale problem with the site.

Edit: Yeah, this was when I was still using Blåhaj Lemmy as my main fedi account. Sweet summer's child!

Hold on, is this like four links and not one? I clicked again and there was a different thread.

Edit: Alright, two threads, my other comment is referring to the settler colonialism one. I remember thinking it was a shame that that jerk was getting any number of upbears, but it was also clear from the start that most Hexbears opposed that line of thinking and called it out for what it was. Seeing the swift, uncompromising, and genuinely good response to that performative adulthood nonsense was actually one of the things that made me sort of fall in love with Hexbear in the first place, because it showed that while there would be users with bad takes, bad behavior was not suffered gladly.
