      aside from McDonald's, franchisees own the place outright and just rent the 'brand' from the mother company. and sure there's oversight to a degree and all that, and fees and sorts, but the franchised store owner is the owner. McDonald's does some other shit tho iirc, I can't remember off the top of my head but I think they own the land and you rent that off them so they're basically a landlord but you still own the bussines? idk
