I've been asking myself that for over 10 years. I think, just from internet osmosis, furries are just humans with animal aesthetics. But anthros have like a whole primitivist/tribal thing going on, and the more realistically you can render the art to look like some anthropological museum piece the more clout you get. Furries, on the other hand, love stylization and variety.
