I found this old computer with a really cool old case that will be perfect for my new computer build. I've been thinking about using all my old components that are left over from my ongoing Ship of Theseus style gaming build to build a dedicated media storage and recording PC. I really like how over built the case is. It's got a frikin keyed lock for the side panel lol.

This particular dumpster has been a gold mine honestly. So far I've saved a nice pressure washer, and a large stainless steel hose reel from this dumpster.

This is a really good tip. Don't do what I did in the pic. All the components in the picture had some areas of really bad corrosion and the power supply was dead too. So I wasn't worried about damaging them.

Found an old pentium 2 that still works through a trash run, case looks pretty similar. That era of rig can be repurposed the same reasons you'd use a lower spec raspberry pi for.

Those early 2000s or older cases are tanks, had one take a good 3ft fall while it was still on and that computer in it still works to this day, probably had a good bit of luck there too tbh.

The motherboard in this was held on with 11 screws hahaha. The best build date estimate I can manage on this is around 2007. It had pretty good specs for a 2007 off the shelf PC.

Nice, if anything works in it might make something decent out of it, still have a running 06 rig here.

My favorite old case has a bunch of standoff positions for all sorts of different mobos, it was almost future proofed back in 01 lol.

I don't think anything in it will work. Once I started to take it apart, I found a lot of corrosion on a lot of the connections and I couldn't get the power supply to turn on at all.

This is the first I've heard of unraid. Looks like it is designed to do pretty much exactly what I'm looking to do. Thanks for the recommendation. The only thing I'm buying for this setup is a power supply and a new 4tb hard drive. I have an old msi motherboard and i7 processor that are both 8 or so years old now but still work.

Yeah it was a core 2 duo with a 2.2ghz clock speed. It was trashed though. The whole computer had a bunch of water damage.

Damn, I never knew how valuable stainless steel was until I was looking into stainless barrels for a biochar reactor... shit's expensive!! Sounds like a great dumpster

That's why I jumped in after that reel. I have no use for it at all, but I couldn't let 50lbs of stainless just go to waste. It's been a really good dumpster. It's shared by 8 or so small businesses. I park next to it when I go to work so I can snoop through it daily.
