I just watched it last night for the first time. It was less in-your-face about being an anti-imperialist/fascist than I expected tbh. It was certainly there throughout but it wasn't as hard hitting to me as people have made it sound.

But idea: getting into heated arguments about Starship Troopers but the entire time you’re misremembering it with Stargate

You're not missing out; the movie glorifies fascism and makes dictatorships look cool. A half hour into the movie and you realize all the flaws of a system where you allow just any stupid moron to vote who hasn't served the country. It's idealistic trash and ignores unfortunate modern circumstances.

if it's a joke comment it's funny, if not then it's further proof that Verhoeven is a god

If you love your country, you serve, and the military is the reflection of a nation that loves its country, so why isn't the army the only citizenry? Universities only churn out over educated academics who wouldn't know which side of a rifle spits bullets, and when the world comes to our shores trying to invade our great nation, who do you think it'll be taking up arms to defend us? A rugged man who learned how to take a life, or some guy who knows how to spell burgeosie?

I don't even think your profile photo is even real, I'm almost certain I saw that guy in a documentary.

Thanks, if we can't even laugh, we'll just be miserable.

I am getting concerned though that what I typed is getting indistinguishable from stuff people actually believe.

it almost is, but that's not your fault

How is it satire peeonyou (if that's even your real name)? You know how exhausting it is to watch a criminal trial take forever when you can just have the presiding judge look over the case and pass verdict without the joke of having a lawyer covering for the criminal?

in one scene someone plays Dixie on a glow in the dark space fiddle, so it's basically your run-of-the-mill lib flick
