Haven't played elden ring yet, but melee sorcery was my favourite type of build in dark souls.
Like, you can r1 combo into casting soul greatsword with blueflame and the right set up of armour + rings, and knowing when to buff to give you the edge in duels adds an entire new layer to PvP tactics.
Ive tried sorcery duels, it’s actually really fun. You can combo melee spells to rollcatch easily and you can use delayed homing projectiles to put pressure on people and be aggressive

Yeah there's definitely a lot of spells like that. You can have giant slashing magic sword, or small stabby magic sword, and all kinds of stuff.
Melee sorcerer is the best its ever been in the series. Both in terms of actual spells and magic weapons. As for weapons there is a magic katana (moonveil) that is basically the darksword of this game so you have a super meta weapon you can use as a backup to bail you out if there's a situation the moonlight greatsword can't handle. (Or you could spam it like every other wizard does.)
It's hilarious watching parry builds and retaliation builds wreck Moonveil users who have never developed any other tactics.
