To blame the current situation on the contemporary left is to give a floating signifier around superficial political alienation more importance than most of them have ultimately shown worthy of having. It isn't even failure. You aren't important enough to have a mission to fail.

"you're not important" lol yeah, after skimming a bit I can see why these useless no-materialism PMC podcasters would have this belief! There's no need for all those big words, it's easy to see why these woke radlib are unable to differentiate themselves from neoliberalism, except by whining about how weak and powerless you are. (were ultralefts "powerless" when they helped the CIA overthrow Ukraine's government, and are now bravely dismissing and scoffing at the idea of anti-imperialism on their PMC podcast?)

Yeah to parse this tweet out he's saying that 'the contemporary left' is a solely cultural phenomenon with no connection to the material world (a floating signifier) that forms out of our PMC woes of being at the top of a food chain we don't particularly like (the superficial alienation). Varn's essentially saying the left as we know it in the west is just a bunch of useless college kids who are latching onto socialism for its aesthetic rather than having any sincere connection to the material realities of working class life and therefore is an insignificant if not fully useless project, so blaming them for anything is just ridiculous. It's amazing because this is the take BMF has 90% of the time but because it comes from the academic space that BMF criticizes it's being criticized despite being self-crit.
