So I’m looking through “the” book about Columbine, the Dave Cullen one, and it’s doing a great job of focusing on the people involved in this massacre, but I’m wondering if you know of any other resources that look for maybe a broader socioeconomic explanation for why this shit is intensifying in the USA? All I can think of is Ames’s book, Going Postal, but that one basically kind of just blames Reagan for everything. It doesn’t go deep enough. I don’t know if you caught the racist kid videos from Jerry Springer that were circulating on twitter a few days ago, but some of the commenters said that this shit was basically caused by the collapse of the USSR. Once America had won the cold war, it no longer needed to even pretend to be good and also no longer needed to fund the kinds of social safety nets that stop mass shootings before they even happen in other countries.
