    This is actually canon. They had a huge cultural split over the whole issue of attitude that eventually resulted in the founding of the Romulan Empire.

        They split because of Surak's teachings in the Time of Awakening around the 4th century CE. Surak taught peace and control of emotions by logic, and the Romulans were the last faction of Vulcans to reject his teachings and ultimately left the planet.

          Romulans = Dark elves.

          those "proto-Vulcans" on that one planet where they thought Picard was a god = Wood Elves
