    He's like the anti-Sagan.

    Sagan was all about awe and wonder at natural forces in the cosmos. This anti-Sagan is all about bleak joyless sneering at everything for the sake of feeling intellectually superior.

    If :my-hero: is :reddit-logo: 's collective fantasies about the future, this anti-Sagan is :reddit-logo: 's collective desire to be too smart to be emotionally moved by anything that isn't officially sanctioned by :reddit-logo: logic and reason.

      It's such a shame too, because he had a personal mentor in Sagan, but didn't internalize his humanistic outlook, only the science part. Science without philosophy is mechanistic nihilism, philosophy without science is sophistry.
