Ever notice how even these freakish liberal attempts at computational tokenism are only ever deployed when the game in question is a round-based shooter with no story at all? Oh sorry, there's a story but you never ever have to look at it, we put it in an online webcomic.
It's very very very very very very curious
turning a big dial taht says “sexual orientation” on it and constantly looking back at the audience for approval like a contestant on the price is right
So, it turns out that it's worse than that.
The version in that press release was an abridged version and it actually includes 10 different criteria to rate from.
Two of these are, body type and facial features/beauty. Literally a "is she hot?" rating.
Oh also being a cis man rates 0 on the 0-10 gender scale and being a cis woman rates 5. I don't know what four other gender identities are more diverse than cis man but less diverse than cis woman.
Edit: got the wording of one of the criteria wrong.
I don’t know what four other gender identities are more diverse than cis man but less diverse than cis woman.
with cis male, they actually mean cis alpha chads. the other four genders inbetween that and cis woman are the other different types of guy: beta male, omega male, sigma male and the rarest male type, juan guaido.
The terrible thought crossed my mind that maybe they lumped gender presentation in with gender identity.
Can't help but wonder where femboys rate on the Activision Blizzard gender diversity scale.

Depends. Do they want to get railed by a buff otter, or a dominatrix? We’re gonna need at least three more scales to figure this out
You know, I never had trouble just making interesting and diverse characters. But maybe because deep down I like seeing those things, I don't need a shitty attempt at an algorithm to not be a bigoted piece of shit.
Algorithmic phrenology is a good descriptor for this. WTF indeed.
Does the tool really rate characters by how ethnic they are? I assumed the scores were based on the total number of different ethnicities represented. Both implementations are awful box-ticking, but the latter is less so.
