I just built a wall mounted shelf and it is 0.5degrees off level by my measurement. I usually build tiny things or electrical things, this is new to me
surely that's not too bad right
It stays, but if you tap the pencil it will very slowly roll down the incline.
if you dont remeasure it 8 times and still go insane from looking at it a year later, you arent on my level
If you're storing loose ball bearings on it it might be a problem, but otherwise it's probably ok.
Really it's more about if it looks tilted, and if that's an issue.
i mean if you stand a book up on it does it fall over? half a degree sounds not bad at all to me, but maybe it looks worse than it sounds
Naturally the book does not fall over, this is good.
It's funny because I think to me it sounds worse than it looks. 0.5 degrees sounds kind of bad, but I cannot really see it with the naked eye.
there is not a single level surface in my apartment so maybe my standards are just much lower
Can't comment on the situation at hand really but I've never had a problem with leveling things by hanging them on a french cleat first (and bolting them on/down later). Even walls, I have a building that's prone to floods during severe weather every 5-10 years, so all the flooring and walls are totally waterproof (vinyl laminate and cement board instead of whatever and drywall) and hung on french cleats in between the studs so it's super easy to remove and wash. Magnets on the backs of the wall sections allow removable trim to be attached, concealing any small gaps in the construction.
That's a really nifty wall installation.
I did even mount my thing on a french cleat first, but maybe the cleat is just a touch warped or it was pulled slightly off the mark when screwing it to the studs. Oh well
