I genuinely didn't see the shit people complain about when it comes to gamers. I am very sheltered, because I never was into social media and even Lemmy and Lemmy adjacent projects I come into and then leave (I'm like a cat, I guess). So somehow I got lucky and didn't really see the shit. Or maybe the crappy behaviours are on the rise.

racist gamers

I am so fucking tired of gamer tubers whenever they want to make a funny/ugly (by their standards) character going for black hair and/or skin. I swear every time they make a joke character they always give the character dark skin and/or black hair. And it's huge channels, e.g. "Let's Game It Out" and so much more.

anti-commie and sinophobe gamers

I'm also sadly afflicted with liking strategy games and the amount of really fucking racist anti commie and (rarely or) sinophobic shit they make up is so fucking tiring. And it's again big channel, e.g. "The Grim Kleaper".

I am too depressed lately to play much myself, so I resort to watching, because I enjoy gaming, but I don't enjoy most of the gamers. :/

I've unsubbed from so many gaming channels for offensive content that I can't even remember them all. I feel like the only one that's kinda edgy who seems okay is CallMeKevin, but please don't take my word for it.

      who seems okay is CallMeKevin

My friend had to marry an insufferable man child who is a man in his 30s who is a fan. I never liked the channel much, but now I downright get triggered by it. xd

        Oh God

Sounds like a dude who watches the "psychopath Jim Pickens" episodes and enjoys it at face value. I don't watch him much anymore, but I felt like the best way to watch his videos was as an ironic parody of a YouTuber.

My condolences for dealing with the man child.

Same here. I never got into any social media channels adjacent to gamers. I just played single player games and lurked on any forums just like with the old Chapo subreddit.

I was actually always surrounded by gamers. Practically all my friends were made through games as a kid and as an adult I've been now working in the game industry for years. In my previous companies, the people working there weren't the capital G gamer types, many in fact didn't really even play games. My current company though has either self unaware bigots or bigots who pretend to be self unaware of own bigotry. I just really lucked out. Or, as I feel, the issue is getting worse, hence why I see it so much lately. :((((

I've really never noticed Let's Game It Out being racist but I haven't watched a ton of his videos

I got recommended his Enshrouded video and he was clearly (based on the way he acts) making a joke character, which turned out to be an old Asian man with black-type hair.

I just saw it come up and his justification is "which hairstyle says 'mid-life crisis' the hardest" He always tries to make the most ridiculous-looking character he can and Enshrouded has limited options.

Maybe I'm naive to give him the benefit of the doubt. His Palworld character who was 80% torso had a purple mop-top made of dreads and a blue goatee.
