HEMA seems so cool. I haven't gotten into it yet, for a number of reasons, but I hope to at some point in my life.
I saw a youtube video once about a woman, I think she was a little over 50, overweight, completely out of shape. And then she decided to do buhurt. And was pretty successful at it for a few years until she felt she had aged out. It was really cool.

Friend and I broke one of my solid oak training swords sparring so hard.
For accurate weight distribution use wood, for actual contact sparring use polypropylene
at a club, it's polypropylene
wood would be a nightmare for insurance
for everything but sparring we use actual swords

I don't practice HEMA, but I watch HEMA videos and matches and guys like Matt Easton talk about swords. I guess that's incredibly lame.
There isn't a hema gym in my area and it makes me just a little bit sad
