If you're interested in getting into flying on a budget check out paragliding. I've never done it because I live in a swamp but if you're near a coast with steady wind or mountains it seems like the absolute cheapest and most practical way to fly.

Yeah it was pretty cool being able to take a 30 minute trip that would've taken hours in a car to have lunch with my grand parents half the state away.
