For screen entertainment in particular, I mean that with how cheap sets often look, how many corners are cut compared to older counterparts that said entertainment typically rides for nostalgia purposes, and also in ways that are numerous and subtle as well.

As a very recent example, the Obi-Wan show is... fine, I suppose, at least by modern standards. But hasn't technology gotten more advanced since the prequels were made? Why do the sets seem so cheap? Why are there so many cinematographic laziness moments? Why is the fight choreography so sloppy?

While it's been a garbage fire all along, "Picard" has been even worse. It was so cheap and lazy that 95% of the show's second season was filmed on location in Los Angeles with special effects that could be mistaken for a fan movie done for free on Youtube.

Another example is sports games, in particular Madden/FIFA monopolies. They remove features and game modes from previous years as a continuous process. In return for updated statistics and names on the roster, things are recycled or outright taken out. The monetization gets greedier all the while, too.

I know planned obsolescence is a thing for cars and phones, but for less material consumer products, is there some methodology for less tangible products being sort of the same way, being cheap and disposable and not intended to last, let alone be remembered, after the hype wave recedes?

The easy answer is capitalism, of course, and the endless insatiable quest for more profit at less expense, but is there anything more specific to it than that?

They scrapped almost all of their animated shows, including the excellent and underrated Inside Job, for fucking Boss Baby. :agony-deep:

        Me too. :deeper-sadness:

Ending where it ended means Rand won everything and was rewarded for his lifelong narcissism, again. That's too real. :jokerfied:

It's still a great show and it's a far superior alternative to the studio's other work (Lower Decks is also good but still), but it ends on a seriously depressing downer surprise upset ending that I had hoped would be handled and mended over in the next season that won't be happening. :doomer:

Non-spoiler summary: horrible narcissist asshole wins and gets everything he wants. The end. It's too real. :amerikkka-clap:
