That's always insufferable and is on a permanent pathway to ever increasing liberal and anti-communist dilution without moderators enforcing a left-unity policy. Do they have one yet? They didn't back when I was there and were rude to me on modmail when I tried to bring it up as a result of getting harassed there for being a "tankie" so I abandoned it. That shit (in both the red and black directions) needs to be bannable and enforced or subreddits turn really bad for whichever side becomes the minority.

I'm not sure about the specific policies, mostly just read threads from there that pop up in my feed, but I recall seeing a thread in the past (more than a year ago, so it doesn't represent an improvement since your experience) along the lines of "This is a communist sub, we tolerate libs but this place isn't for you and you'll be banned if you say anti-communist stuff" from the mods. Always assumed it was just hard to keep up with the libs in terms of mod work, sucks that you had a bad time with the mods directly.

The reddit left can be put into a few distinct groups.

The anti-tankie anarchists whose spaces are also occupied by fascists and neoliberals pretending to be anarchists for anti-communist agitation. Their large spaces are extremely susceptible to liberalisation because everyone that knows any theory gets chased out as a tankie which then leaves the space a play area for neoliberals and fascists to spread distortions or pull outright takeovers (antiwork suffered from this).

The mixed "we are way too small and powerless to be infighting" red and black spaces that are violently anti-sectarian. These are the best and most effective spaces.

The sectarian tankie spaces, which aren't usually dedicated to sectarianism but can devolve into it from time to time.

The tankie spaces that don't allow sectarianism in their subreddits but exist solely to be tankie spaces.

The "we're socialists but we want to grill" spaces, which are susceptible to swinging in either of the two sectarian directions depending on who the majority of subscribers become. Ani_communism is owned by anarchists but became an ML sub because of this lack of moderation, while sigmarxism was becoming a radlib sub when I abandoned it.

I would prefer that all subs just take up the anti-sectarianism position and viciously maintain it. The grill subs are lazy modteams and the others do a bunch of time wasting on each other instead of on capitalists. Several efforts have been undertaken to build coalitions to this end that have been effective but the lazy subreddits are impossible to organise or cross pollinate with because they're too switched off.
