But now everyone says I'm lazy because I'm a communist.

I used to think I was lazy, but it turns out I just instinctively hated the alienation of labor

gardening showed me that when I can self-direct tasks and the results of my labor I love doing stuff

Yup. I firmly believe that the vast majority of people could fit the profile of the fabled Hard Worker if we cut out the parasitic capitalist middleman from the equation, and if there was the remotest amount of effort made by our social structures to make work meaningful and/or to pair people with jobs that they are well suited toward. And ofc even if they don't fit that profile there's no shame in it and they should still be cared for by society.

People used to call me a stoner before I smoked weed. I think the causality’s probably backwards on those stereotypes

    el oh el

reminds me of a bit on my favorite podcast why theory which goes a little something like this: white racists like to caricaturize Mexican immigrants as lazy. The lib daily show retort is "uh so lazy they also steal all our jobs?" (they did a hypocrisy and that is bad). The galaxy brain Hegelian retort is of course they are lazy and of course they are hardworking, because people are and it's dehumanizing to talk about immigrants as though they are one or the other.

I know from personal experience that I'm a lazy slug who works until their legs fall off.

The contradictions of the modern western capitalist mindset seek to both apologize for the wasteful hedonism of consumer culture and chastise the layman for failing at frugality. You are only entitled to your own time and labor when you have accumulated sufficient surplus wealth from your neighbors, at which point your neighbors are obligated to "hustle" in order to provide you with that to which they aspire.

What if the entirety of Western Civilization was nothing but a MLM scheme?

I feel that. I used to work harder than I had to because I wanted to fight the stereotype or something. “Work ethic” programming is tenacious. Not that it would be bad to promote a strong work ethic under socialism, of course.
