Why are they remaking this? It's not like gaming has really changed any at all during the time between. Like, MGS got remade on the very next generation but there was also a massive leap between the two. Now it's a barely noticeable graphical upgrade. There's no need for this.

It actually seems like they're burning money when they could've done a remaster for way cheaper and just sell that shit bundled with TLOS2 on the PS5, Sony should hire me.

They could do that, but I bet dollars to donuts this is mainly because Sony wants Naughty Dog to start cranking out new Last of Us media to coincide with the upcoming release of the TV show

Ah, yeah, it makes a bit more sense if they're making an entire franchise out of this, especially if the aim is getting the new designs closer to the TV counterparts.

Yeah, we're getting this remake this year and a multiplayer focused title next year

The show's release is scheduled to sit between those projects and I wouldn't be surprised if they announced The Last of Us part 3 next year as well

Hell, with the Horizon: Zero Dawn and Twisted Metal TV shows coming out, and rumors of a Destiny TV show floating about, it's going to be a great year for things we recognize

I also imagine that artists, animators, and coders might need to get used to what a new gen of consoles handle before a project is far enough along that they have real work. So maybe redoing assets of older games is something that's always happened, and the PS4/PS5 generation spike in remasters and remakes is admin staff pushing those projects further for the sake of "efficiency".

Doesn't really look like Bella Ramsey to me

Would have been an opportunity there, but I think it's mainly to make her look less like Elliot Page as someone else mentioned somewhere around here

Okay, more accurat, in what way at all could this be meaningfully different?

It's not, Sony doesn't want it to be different

Sony wants to turn it into a critically praised multimedia franchise

Sony has plans to turn all of it's IP into TV shows and movies

What better way to get you to buy a PS5 than to pull a "You watched the award-winning show, now play the game, only in PS5 (and pc)"

That's too bad. Isn't the plot just like, pretty typical zombie stuff? I never played it.

The sequel got up its own ass trying to make a point about the cycle of violence, but the first one is just a good story about a broken man and what he does with his second chance

Got to train new employees somehow after you burn everyone out with massive crunch.

Why would anyone in programming work these 80+ hour crunch weeks in gaming or special effects studios when they can earn double the money working for 40 hours a week at a bank or something.

Not even at a bank, they could just work on the business side of gaming. Pretty sure even EA pays market wage and 40hr weeks for the people who figure out how to get the most out of selling FUT packs. It's less creative work, but fuck being on the creative side if it means getting treated like shit for worse pay.
