I don't think it's a big secret that this comm isn't very active.
and maybe that's not necessarily a bad thing.
but I am interested in people's opinions on what they get out of this comm or would want to get out of this comm.
I'm going to leave this post stickied for awhile, feel free to leave your input.
I've been meaning to vent on how terrible "American" Christians are, no matter the denomination. Just mammon worshipping evil all around.
Other than that, cool and based passages from scripture. DSA Religious Left literature. Book and lecture recommendations with an explicitly leftist bent.
Might tell my Catholic relatives they've syncretized Protestantism and see how it goes
Nonstop Hussite posting as we drink from the Chalice and bodyshame Pope Martin V
Something small, like a scripture or one paragraph of a famous prayer. Along those lines I guess
@marxisthayaca @MiraculousMM thinking of maybe trimming some parts of the side bar, rephrasing/clarifying the rules etc. but don't want to act of my own accord.
You are welcome to tackle it or send me a dm with your proposed changes — in case you want feedback. I trust you :comrade-doggo:
Alright well I made the changes, but I am gonna keep the old format as a spoiler incase we want to go back or see it again

Welcome to c/Christianity
✝️❤️❤️❤️☦️
Tone of the community :
"Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy."
-Proverbs 31: 8-9"But let Justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never-failing stream!."
-Amos 5:24"No one can serve two masters, for he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money."
-Matthew 6:24"Let it be very clear, then, that when the church preaches social justice, equality, and human dignity; when the church defends those who suffer poverty or violence, this is not subversive nor is it Marxism. This is the authentic magisterium of the church.
-Óscar Romero
RULES :
shamelessly stolen from c/judaism- Love thy neighbor.
- Follow the chapo.chat code of conduct.
- This community has no denominational bias (but you can still post denomination specific content.) Please be respectful.
- Leftist Ideologies are secular, not atheist. This is not a place to "dunk" on Christianity, but a place to help liberate it.
- No dehumanizing ANYONE, especially Palestinians
- No Israeli apologia
- Anti-Zionism is allowed. Anti-Semitism is not.
- BDS is good and based.
Resources :
I forget who added the Oscar Romero stuff, so sorry if the cut offends, but I started to feel like having two links to his stuff and a Catholic Liturgical calendar (which I also cut) might unintentionally give the appearance of a Catholic bias.
I kept the quotation in their honor and because I think it does the best to capture the feeling.I tried to condense and make our own set up rules (instead of just borrowing them from another comm) while also making it more orderly.
I think it covers most of what we should be concerned with.I changed the bibles link to a resource I think is probably better.
and added a resource for finding LGBT parishes in general and not just Catholic so I can unpin the current list.I also added a reminder of the subscription feature at the bottom.
There have been some people recently who have been kind of hostile after stumbling on a post in All/New.
Carcosa (I think) suggested we set the community to not show up in All, but I think this is a better compromise as that feature to me seems more for keeping minors out of nsfw stuff than anything else.Let me know what you think.
I probably added the Oscar Romero stuff, but I am ok with working that into a megathread or a sticky post.

Yes please, folks should be go to LGBTQ friendly churches first and foremost.

I don't know how I feel about that, although I totally empathize given the amount of religious trauma people incurred on them by American evangelism; but I wanna be clear - we are comrades and if people need to ventYeah, let's opt out of showing to /c/All. Nobody deserves to be triggered on this site, but I want to find a way to emphasize that this is an open and welcoming space for religious comrades, specially LGBTQ comrades.
idk if I agree, there is already a feature that allows people to opt out, I don't think this comm should be opted out by everyone by default
I think people reacting really strongly at Christianity comes out of religious trauma and we honestly do not need folks being triggered more than they already are by news and politics. I want this place to be welcoming and not require the banning of users. Therefore you should see posts at your own volition.
And we have an option to go the extra mile.
Look I’m saying it as a devout christian (who was once an atheist), this stuff shouldn’t be forced on anyone, specially at this moment.
if people feel that strongly they can be the ones to take the initiative as far as I am concerned tbh.
the comm is dead enough as is, and God knows most people don't use the subscribe feature and aren't going to know to if we are immediately sequestered off of all.
you say you want to make known this is a welcoming community, but I don't think it will ever happen that way.My vote is no @MiraculousMM can be the tie breaker
Hey comrade, I appreciate you asking for my input. I understand your stance of wanting the sub to be as welcoming and inclusive as possible, and keeping it on /c/all is the best way to go about that. Christ himself would want his authentic message to reach as many possible as possible.
However, given the current utter oppression that christo-fascists have wrought in the West (which is where a huge majority of our users are from, particularly Amerikkka), I think excluding this sub from All for now is most in-line with the spirit of the site.
But I'd also like to consult with the admins on this, as I think it's an important enough issue that the whole team should discuss it.
I am attending a DSA event on religion and reproductive freedoms. I'd like to see some serious reaffirmation of the role spirituality and Christianity as to keep on topic with this sub can have in the socialist project, and what counter-arguments we can take against christo-fascist doctrnie.
