I was delivering pizzas last night, and a boomer placed an order at 9:55, five minutes before we closed. He lives on a busy highway with a 60mph speed limit, and he didn't have a mailbox with a clearly-labelled address. Because it was dark and there was still plenty of traffic, I passed his house 7 times before I decided to call him and tell him I couldn't locate him. His phone was turned off and went directly to voicemail, so I left him a message. I waited on a side street for 5 minutes, and when he didn't call back, I headed back to the store.

I told the manager and we refunded his order and started our closing duties. After an hour of sweeping, mopping, cleaning the kitchen, and doing dishes, I looked at my phone as we were walking out the door. I had 6 missed calls and 6 voicemails from the dude, the first of which came 40 minutes after I tried contacting him.

They each got angrier and angrier, and I couldn't help but crack up, lmao. They went like this:

Message #1 10:50: "My address is 5 or 6 houses past [a side street], on the left. I'm still waiting for you."

Message #2 10:51: "My address is [redacted], call me back!"

Message #3 10:52: "Call me back!!"

Message #4 10:55: "Getting impatient. What the fuck?? You guys don't call your customers back? I order from you guys all the time!"

Message #5 11:00: "Well [my name], I hope you enjoy the fucking pizza!"

Message #6 11:13: "Fucking hungry!"

The store's phones automatically shut off after close, so he couldn't reach us. I guess this is a lesson in not ordering right before a business closes, and also keep your phone turned on when you're expecting a delivery.

Oh, and I'm literally eating his leftover pizza right now as I post this :michael-laugh:

I hope you're using a voip line to give to customers instead of giving them a way to harass you

I really wish I had thought about that, but it's never been a problem before. I just blocked him and hopefully won't have to deal with him again. I'm definitely going to look into VOIP now, though.

Ordering 5 minutes before close for something that takes longer than 5 minutes to make is such shit. Honestly the manager should have a "last call" like 15 minutes prior.

And I hate people who live on very fast, busy roads who don't at least give you instructions and turn the lights on, your ass wants food, help me get it to you, but I'm not dying for your pizza lol

We had a manager who stopped taking delivery orders 30 minutes before we closed, but the owners found out and we got in trouble. Life has been a lot more shitty since then.

You understand the plight very well. I absolutely hate delivering on fast roads like this, especially at night. It should honestly be a requirement for every mailbox to have that reflective green address sign attached to them.

Petite bourgeois be petite bourgeoising 🙄

I do, have done it for a few different gigs. Properly displaying your address seems like it would be straight forward, especially in the age of home delivery at the click of a button, but here we are. I'm in a city now so mailboxes are rare, so it's a game of looking around every facet of a building or yard to find one sometimes, I'm are moving my head all around makes me look like a bird. Google maps can sometimes help

Comrades, I hereby apologize for in the past ordering close to closing from my favorite spot. I am letting myself be taken accountable.

      We forgive you.

At my job at least, we can't start the closing process until the last order has been completed. If someone orders delivery ten minutes before we close, and they live 20 minutes away, that adds 40 minutes to how long it'll take us to leave work. It sucks ass when things are looking good and we might get out by 10:20, only to have someone ruin that by placing an order for delivery. Now we're getting out of here closer to 11:00, and that's less time I get to spend at home before I need to get to sleep.

That's insane what a difference one order makes. Fuck me, at least I tipped heavily. Thanks for educating me.
