Edit: this is probably the wrong thing to focus on, but I'm increasingly upset they didn't do the alpha transparency right on their profile pic. It's 2024 ffs. More evidence this is boomer fueled.

Has there ever been such an organised anti-youth movement with as much government support as that of 21st century America?

The first couple of Satanic Panics hit kids pretty hard at times

But it never really got to the Federal level, not like this anyway

Nixon's clandestine war on college kids and black youth was pretty bad. This is more just a social media market share pissing contest by comparison.

Honestly I've avoided it because I just don't think more shortform doomscrolling is what I need in my life but fuck if the US govt doesn't make it sound cool

hamfisted attempt to suppress anything coming out of Palestine. i've been screaming this into the void at anyone that cares

especially when you hear the Accela corridor weirdos constantly bring up "tik-tok brain" when referring to anyone that believe used to be "nuanced" that now supports Palestine

they think they can cut off the spigot, kill a primary news source for people under 40.

twitter is already locked down by nazis and how gross it is. the other social media sites are fully captured. all major news organizations are controlled or funded by zionists

and now they are doing an op with the FBI to go after "extremism" online and they aren't talking about the right-wing kind

they really want everyone to stop paying attention by just cutting off the stream of information because you can't do "news cycles" with social media existing

It is truly past the point of parody how completely God fucking awful liberals are at politics.

I really hope tik tok calls their bluff and when the bill passes they just put out a statement saying "tik tok isn't available in the US, this is apparently what your elected leaders think is a priority"

I mean seriously, if I wrote this to shit on liberals it'd seem ham fisted

"OK were at risk of losing an election to Donald Trump because we have actively worked to piss off anybody under 40 for our entire administration. People can't afford food, housing, or even the gas to get to the job that they hate that doesn't pay them enough. If we lose youth support we lose the election, what should we do?

I know, let's ban the most popular social media app in the world with those voters while still allowing Facebook to do the exact same thing to cater to their boomer parents."

Way to create an entire generation of single issue voters who's single issue is "seriously, go fuck yourself with a splinters fence post"

It's like they've been running down a checklist of voters to alienate before November.

Seriously, figured they'd checked young people off then list after explicitly saying "I have no sympathy for young people, if you don't like something go out and change it"

But apparently that was too long ago and they want to make sure to remind everybody why they hate them

      They're already doing this

      https://nymag.com/intelligencer/article/tiktok-seems-pretty-worried-about-getting-banned.html

On Tuesday, a bipartisan [!!!] group of lawmakers introduced a bill that would give TikTok owner ByteDance a deadline to divest itself of the social-media platform. If the law passes and the deadline is not met, the app could face a ban. On Thursday, some TikTok users opened their apps and encountered this message:

Speak up now — before your government strips 170 million Americans of their Constitutional right to free expression.

This will damage millions of businesses, destroy the livelihoods of countless creators across the country, and deny artists an audience.

Let Congress know what TikTok means to you and tell them to vote NO.

This is surprising but not unprecedented. When facing potential regulation, Facebook, Uber, Airbnb, and many other apps have asked users to lobby on their behalf; TikTok itself has previously made its case directly to the public too. Most of the time, these sorts of things are easy to ignore, and most people do — you tap a little x, or hit the back button, and scroll on. Except when you can’t:

When I opened TikTok today, I got this pop-up that gives you no option to exit or swipe away, the only action is to “call now”

Timing of this really feels like it's a trap that's supposed to suppress any youth vote for the democrats. Any young people upset with losing tiktok are not going to vote for the person that signed that ban into existence.

And of course the liberals are all playing directly into it.

We need to act against this organization dedicated to censorship by censoring them.
