It's quite literally identity politics under the name 'anti-imperialism'. No matter how much 'patsocs' hate the 'wokies', they basically use their same logic for defending "eastern" countries. It's quite a farce.
IIRC, the general timeline is that GZD went from "fuck Russia but fuck NATO more" to "critical support" to "omg baZed!" back to between the first and second ones again after the mods started cleaning house (since Reddit going full-on Stepan Bandera drove lots of Russian nationalists and Putin sympathizers into the safe refuges). Whether mods did it out of genuine principle or because Reddit quarantined the sub IDK
I am actually grateful for their existence. They're simply a different brand of liberalism that will keep those on /r/tankiejerk occupied. The only thing I would worry about is if this type of thinking started infesting real life organizations. It has already gotten a few actual communists like Grover Furr caught up (though he's old).
