To be fair Illinois isn't entirely controlled by Democrats, outside of (and even parts of) the Chicagoan suburban band are just as chud as anyone from the surrounding states (Iowa, Wisconsin, Indiana, MIssouri, Kentucky) it's just that Chicagoland has such outsized political power comparatively they don't really matter.
