I saw the beginning of this last night and decided not to jump in because I was tired. Kinda wish I woulda said something right then to try and head it off. I know I too got mad when I first encountered the point that prejudice against white people isn't racism (decades ago), but I eventually learned the difference between prejudice and racism. (For anyone out there who still isn't clear on this: racism is prejudice enforced by power structures; that's why whites can be racist against Black people but not the reverse, because Black people don't have the structural power to make their prejudice into racism.) Maybe I should have said as much right when he was just getting started.

@PootrKrobuttkin, if you're out there: This was a bad take, but you're not a bad person. Take some time, and maybe do some reading, and come back. Because reddit sucks, and you shouldn't go on there :P

Edit: It has come to my attention that last night was something of a "bad takes: greatest hits." So I'm thinking the reading, and some self-reflection, is definitely warranted.

The kindness of this place is why I’m still here in like my 50th account because I feel guilty after being an ass or making a terrible take. The people here are comrades, simple as. And sometimes simple is best. Simply kind. I hope he returns, learns, and gets to post an epic fucking dunk on the inevitable next time this happens.

It wouldn’t have mattered tons of people made similar points last night and in the original struggle sesh. He’s demonstrated he has somewhat of an understanding of the structural issue he just can’t drop the reactionary “well if someone’s mean to le-pol-face that’s racism” argument.

I think he’s feeling a lot of cognitive dissonance here and is just doubling down, the only thing that can get him over it is himself doing the heavy lifting of unpacking it. I hope he does.
