You can partially thank hack writer of star wars/YA books (that are more like commercials for IP than actual novels) Chuck Wingdings for this. His whinging and crying about "authors being unfairly stolen from" is partially what caused this case to start.
Man, I know it's fan fiction written for children, but having seen his Twitter account I'm still amazed that a man-child who could barely construct a sentence is a published writer.
