holy shit do NOT read the responses :eu-cool:

i did like the complete lack of self awareness of this one though

Imagine inviting yourself into a foreign country and then demanding its citizens pay to provide for you. Multiply this by millions. Sooner or later a turning point will be reached.

“🇬🇧 Oy why don’t these Africans stay home and make their country a place worth staying in!”

oblivious to the fact that these countries have been/are unlivable and becoming increasingly that way

      Humanity had a good run.

The English are famous for never traveling to other countries and never imposing themselves on the native populations :blob-no-thoughts:

Yeah that's cool and good when you do it by military force and dominate. It's bad when you're a sneaky person and not a European empire

they always act like immigrants just sit around flicking boogers when in reality they do some of the most back breaking labor of society, including construction

so those who have capital demand labor from these immigrants to build housing for the good ones while completely shirking the needs of the same immigrants despite their profession. alienation from the products of your own labor

mind you they're usually (illegally!) underpaid in their back breaking labor too

Most states in Germany have a policy to house Ukrainians in different shelters than other refugees so that all the black and brown people become less aware of the obvious double standards applied when the refugees are suddenly "from a culturally similar background". As they have to relocate the black and brown refugees to make room for that, frequently housing them in smaller rooms than the already cramped previous accomodations, it ... doesn't work quite as intended.

fuckin europeans man. Any time anything involving africa or the middle east comes up it's "islamists" this and "invaders" that and "muh western culture". They'll turn around and tell you with a straight face they aren't racist and "don't see color" though. Racist morons. I was looking through r/europe to punish myself a bit now to see if this had come up. I didn't see it, but I did see an article about climate-change driven wildfires endangering historical sites and wouldn't you know it the totally not racist europeans managed to make it about muslims in Sweden and France.

How do we expect any good to come about in a world where most people think this way?

its not most people, its most westerners. plenty of AES countries that have a more humanitarian populace. and the global south will see many revolutions as western empire falls.

People who come to other countries like this have to work so hard to barely get by. No one wants to acknowledge the forces that made them want to leave their home country in the first place. Westerners just ignore any culpability and demonize certain migrants :us-foreign-policy:

    Hope something comes from this

the forces that made them want to leave their home country in the first place

Especially relevant considering these were African migrants and it's in France, the Western country still most involved in trying to run large parts of Africa like a colony.

It isn't even as though the French don't have a ravenous demand for cheap African labor. The state bureaucracy just loves to haze southern migrants as a kind-of ritualized punishment for crossing Mediterranean.

As soon as they're legalized, they get snapped up by employers hungry for below-market rate talent and desperation-driven hard work. They rapidly urbanize their corners of the city and boost the flagging economy. Their kids leap head first into the local culture, excited to fit in. They pay far more than their fair share of taxes, they're far less likely to commit crime, they outperform in school, and they generally make the country happier, healthier, and wealthier.

French authorities just feel the need to kick them in the ribs for a year or a decade or a lifetime, because they can.

The degree to which the English hate Pollacks cannot be understated. Just a matter of time before the EU media turns on Ukrainians.

That said, they're still "white", which puts them a rung higher on the racism pole than the unseasonably tan.

This American Life is terminally liberal, but they had a good segment on the stark contrast between facilities for Ukrainian and (primarily) Central American migrants in Tijuana waiting to cross the US-Mexico border.

The French are incredibly racist to African migrants, even by European standards. I listened to an episode of This American Life once where they were interviewing American ex pats living in Paris, and one of their interviews was with a Black American woman who had emigrated because the french were much less racist to her when they knew she was from the US, only to be confused for an African migrant when she became fluent in French. Said that it was basically just as bad as the US if not worse, since the French never had any meaningful reckoning with their violent colonial history.
