    Any old guy can claim to be an expert on some niche topic they can speak confidently on and be validated, not everyone can claim to be a nuclear engineer and have people just accept that at face value. The example shows you exactly that difference between specialist and expert - you need to acquire some actual education on the matter and pass a few exams to be allowed to build a nuclear powerplant but you don't necessarily need any of that to speak publicly about it and be called an expert while doing so

      well that would be the difference between claiming to be an expert and being an expert. I can claim to be the queen of the Nile but I'm not

        yeah whatever I guess, sometimes expert does indeed mean something when it's specifically in reference to someone's actual expertise in having already done something before.

        the way "expert" is commonly used by media is not that tho, is all I'm saying
