Yeah, my partner and I are planning to eventually do a home water birth or something, with a midwife and doula, instead of going to a hospital. Too many horror stories of doctors being awful at delivery, the position being among the worst for the birthing parent, shit treatment of natal emergencies that have led to more than one person with cognitive delay in our families.
The rate at which they push C-sections is another reason.
Happened to us twice even as we wanted natural birth and had a doula for the first one.
Another thing about the hospitals, as we all here surely are aware of, ate them hidden, fine print fees. Think it was a few thousand dollars out of pocket, despite having “good” insurance.
Fucking capitalist scam healthcare is in America.
It’s still absolutely astounding to me, and may be one of the things along with the rapacity of the real estate cabals that ultimately kicks off the revolution, that the government couldn’t come together during a pandemic to finally ensure that everyone gets free universal healthcare.
Man if you're going to scare monger about hospital vs home birth. I can play this game all day. How many dead babies have you had to deliver? How many women have you seen bleed out right before your eyes? Women die during childbirth in the best of conditions, at least in the United States, but they die like crazy trying to save a few bucks at home. I wish you could see the things that happen, but I'm honestly glad you haven't. You ever see an elevator door open to spill blood out onto the linoleum? I have.
I'm not going to defend this failure we call health care but home birth is playing Russian roulette with two lives. I want to try to be professional here, I can't. Midwives are serial killers. In my state, and I'm very rural, they're not even fucking licensed, anyone can legally call themselves a midwife. You wanna play an-prim knock yourself out, but you might end that year living alone with two graves in the back yard.
I live 10 minutes from a hospital. We have a functioning medical system in my country. Midwives here are licensed, trained, government-funded medical professionals and primary care providers. If there's any chance of complications or it's a high risk pregnancy (which is identifiable far in advance), the midwife is going to be qualified to pass us to an OB so the birth can be done as safely as possible in a medical environment. You think I'm out here rubbing honey on a rabies bite or praying to a fertility goddess for luck?

That's fine, congratulations on living in a functioning country. I only know what I deal with.
