I hate the taste of liquor but I hate sobriety but I'm almost out of orange juice to make screwdrivers with but I don't wanna go to the store but the same volume of alcohol + sprite = I can taste so much alcohol and my mouth wants to die

what drinks do y'all think taste like ass but you're drinkin' anyway

    kilju

makes sense but TIL you can just make alcohol with sugar, water and yeast, dang

cool that it's legal to make in Finland now, super lame it's still illegal to distill it into useful levels of alcohol

I would imagine they do but I'm not finnish, I only mentioned Finland because Kilju is apparently a finnish thing and the legality of it came up on wikipedia. (lol it used to be "illegal" but you could get around it by putting a few raisins in it, kind of hilarious)

I think if I were buying that much apple juice the cost and the effort for me would make it too close to just buying wine for it to be worth it, but sugar + yeast + water would potentially be cheap enough to be worth it if I were that broke and still desperate to end my sobriety

Maybe I'll try it, idk, I'm supposed to be trying to stop drinking though, I keep gaining weight and alcohol is my biggest source of useless calories. I guess you just dump all the ingredients together and let it sit in the dark for like a week, then filter it so you're not drinking dead yeast?

If you're going to the store to buy wine yeast you should consider spending the extra ten bucks to get some yeast nutrient and an airlock too. Apple juice that isn't fresh from the press is usually fortified with vitamin C to inhibit fermentation, so the nutrient can help, but if you're pitching a load of yeast meant for 5 gallons of must into 1 gallon it prolly won't make that big of a difference.

Either way, it's worth making a starter too - mix half a cup/~200mls of juice and an equal amount of water with the nutrient if you got any, dissolve maybe 1/8th of a teaspoon/0.2g of sugar, add the yeast, cover it with a towel, let it sit overnight and dump it into the rest of the juice the next day.
