    This is such a weird cyberpunk future we got. Corporations are definitely the only power centre left but instead of direct rule, they're content with keeping the state around - which, of course they did, that was the point of the state, to coordinate action and act as a way for class rule to go through. They're fine with an arms distance merger with the state.

    Instead of something dark or gritty we got fischer price aesthetic evil corporations like Google. Like a comination between neuromancer and brave new world. And also we never got robot arms, instead smartphones but the widespread robo arms were always a bit of a stretch, you'd have to violate some core norms about peoples' own bodies and our culture never went in that direction - it went directly after our minds and time but left our bodies to mostly to ourselves (for now and the us roe v wade overturning along with rising transphobia notwithstanding)
