Matt Taibi was on Bill Maher’s HBO show defending Pelosi saying what she did is cool and principled because China is a “human rights violator” and it’s “worth taking a stance sometimes.”
And it’s because of the “donors” with commercial interests in China that most politicians are reluctant to speak out.

I hope the sanctions have at least some material consequence.

He was fine when Bernie was running because he was well connected into the campaign establishment and could provide some insight (which turned out to be wildly and stupidly optimistic, just like the Bernie campaign staff) but he has been complete dogshit at analysis forever, he is literally just willing to go onto any talk show to spew his nonsense.
Remember when the DNC [legally, the courts ruled that they were within their rights to do so as a private company] rigged their primary and cheated Bernie out of the nomination? And then chose the only person in the USA capable of losing to Trump?
