It looks like the picture has been taken with a wide angle lens (probably the kind that phones tend to have now) with the photographer standing quite close to the subject. For less distortion but with a picture that still shows the whole kid head-to-toe, the photographer should have taken a few steps back and used one of the narrower lenses on their phone (either the default one or the zoom one, depending on the phone).
