I've got a bunch of these but my usual buyer is ghosting me.
You don’t happen to live in a mansion in the nice part of town do you?
I'd just start cold calling mansion owners and offer them a 1000 smackers a month, take it or leave it.
And "smackers" is the most normal thing you should call it. Even better to start with "smackaroos" or "smackaroonies" and just add from there
I can't believe that an entire catalytic converter is the best choice economically for stealing shit and turning it in to cash.
You get, what, like 20-30$ for one? The risk seems pretty low bc you can get them off really fast and do it in areas people aren't likely to hear it. And the cops seem to have it filed under "little people problems" and don't do anything about it unless they do a big bust. Which is pointless because you need like a 30$ battery angle grinder to steal them in the first place.
it really isn't people steal them for the platinum but getting that platinum requires a process that if not done properly results in very toxic fumes. (and you'd basically need a lab to do it properly).
The car stereo/radio is right there and worth more while being less dangerous to get.
I watched someone actually process the insides of a converter in to platinum once. The short version is don't do this you will die of horrific chemical burns.
Haha but at least take catalytic converters from fancy SUV's instead. May as well deflate tyres while you're at it.
Apparently this is some kind of epidemic across the country.
I’ve had catalytic converters cut out from beneath two cars we’ve owned, each requiring a new muffler system to be installed.
The fist time the goddamn useless cops came and had the audacity (or perhaps it’s entirely predictable) to accuse us of having possibly done it!
The second time we were covered by insurance. Took it to the local repair shop and he informed us that just prior there had been a night in which 6 were taken in the neighborhood.
Wtf? Sign of the times, or are there always criminal schemes like these?
there always criminal schemes like these?
This one, for a while it was stealing car stereos
There has always been this kind of theft. The "chicago credit car" was a 70's expression for siphoning gas out of cars. In the 90s and 2000 it was car stereos. It's been copper wire as long as there's been copper wire. Now it's catalytic converters. Hell, I've even had the tabs stolen off my car lol
My kindergarten's school bus keeps getting hit. Like we've literally bought the thing three new converters.
