at least when it comes to consumer tech

like i can't even remember the last time i was excited for a new tech thing. maybe my second smart phone, i guess? that one was at least a big improvement from my first one. third was marginally better, and then the fourth, which i'm using now, i feel like i only got because of planned obsolescence (slow down/battery problems etc.)

it's such a stark contrast from growing up in the 90s/early 2000s

    I know what I'd do with 3D printing but I don't actually have the skillset to do it yet and learning things is effoooort

      Once you start to get the hang of stuff like FreeCAD, you can really take off with it. I have no artistic abilities whatsoever and am absolute dogshit with 3D modeling programs like Blender, but the methodology in designing mechanical parts is different. Thinking about things in terms of dimensions and constraints and tolerances clicked for me in a way that freeform sculpture in Blender never did (it also helps that I work with blueprints daily, though).
