Yeah, I saw my first one in the back yard a few years ago when I was living with my mom, and I was shocked at how big it was. It was almost two feet tall and you could see it clearly from 50 yards away.
He's such a handsome and quirky boy. These are really cool birbs :comrade-birdie:
Holy crap, at 2:10 he grabs and demolishes the biggest grub I've ever seen!
After looking up the sex differences in these birds, I realized this is a female pileated woodpecker. Males have larger crests and red streaks on their cheeks.
