i think soft drinks were originally formulated to be mixers, but some marketing wizard was like, "just play it straight and kids can drink it!"
anyway, i also enjoyed sangria (the red wine + OJ kind), but the sugar could be heinous later.
towards the end of my drinking, i would downstep cheap reds with water as my night went on, in an effort to widen the target window and reach the zenith of booze buzz without every really being too drunk (zero spins) to glide gently into a bed without being very dehydrated the next day.
don't let anyone tell you that you can't mix wine with whatever. those people are brutes.
