    I do think he's from a different era where Democrats had to sort of care about a broad "middle class" that included working people that might own a house and car(s) but were still kind of struggling. It's why he tries to act simple and humble. The new "progressives" see everything as a game of virtue, so all those suburbanites in an economic downward spiral can go to hell if they don't donate to NPR and read White Fragility or whatever.

    More important though, the moment calls for it. We're on track for ten percent inflation before the end of the year and some of the most expensive fuel ever. People will be choosing between heating their homes and owning their homes, eating and freezing, working to afford to drive or forgoing both. There's no actual solution that they can give us beyond this, because the other half of the bourgeoisie would rather see us all die, so this is what we get. If they didn't give it to us, we might revolt, but we sure as shit wouldn't vote Democrat.

      i feel like this describes Liberals better. i think the thing that differentiates liberals from progressives is that progressives care about economic issues....
